Best Water Bottles 2019 – Complete Buyer’s Guide

Articles on 9 Jan , 2019

It’s our favorite time of year once again! Time to bring you the best water bottles of the year!

Below, we’ve compiled our findings to showcase the best water bottles of 2019.

We’ve tested each of these bottles. We’ve compared them to the hundreds of bottles we’ve reviewed.

We’ll take a look at the best Stainless Steel, Glass, and Plastic water bottles.

Click on any of those links to jump straight to that category. Or keep reading to see which bottle we named the best water bottle of 2019.

We tested dozens of bottles for this article, but we’re only interested in the best. So we’ll be showing off our top three picks from each category, plus our top pick for best bottle of the year.

That will give you ten of the best water bottles of 2019 to pick from. If that’s not enough, we’ll also look at some bottles we named the Best Water Bottle in previous years.

Without further ado, the best water bottles of 2019.

The Best Water Bottle of 2019

Takeya Thermoflask Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottle (~$20 32oz)

Takeya Thermoflask Double Pack

We’ve named the Takeya Thermoflask the very best water bottle of 2019.

Why? Simple. The Thermoflask has a lot going for it:

  • Super Affordable
  • Proven Design
  • Exceptional Insulation
  • Trusted Manufacturer
  • Durable Construction

Made from high quality 18/8 food-grade stainless steel, the Thermoflask is a tank. This steel construction makes it easy to clean, offers a lifetime of durability, and provides excellent insulation.

For anyone looking for a premium water bottle with a bargain price tag, this is the bottle.

That’s because for less than $50 you get not one but two 40-ounce Thermoflasks. That’s about what you’d pay for a single 40-ounce bottle from a competing brand!

You also have the option of picking up a single Thermoflask for about $20.

Speaking of competing brands, we’ve put the Thermoflask head-to-head against several.

We did an in-depth comparison with Hydro Flask and included the Thermoflask in our Best Insulated Bottles.

Though the Thermoflask didn’t finish first in those tests, what it did do was impressive. It stood up to market leaders on every factor we tested it on. And it did it for about half the price.

As you can see from this graph from our Cold Retention Insulation Test, the Thermoflask came second only to the much more expensive Hydro Flask.

That’s why we’ve named it the Best Water Bottle of 2019.

Good work, Takeya.

Stainless Steel Water Bottles are the most rugged and durable type of reusable bottle. Made from food-grade stainless steel, they are just about impervious to the abuses of daily life.

They also offer the best insulation. Featuring a double-walled design that utilizes a vacuum to minimize heat transfer, these bottles can keep their contents cold for as long as 24 hours.

YETI Rambler Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle (~$30 18oz)

YETI Rambler Insulated Stainless Steel Bottle In Blue

YETI is one of the top names in insulated cooler technology. When they decided to hit the market with the Rambler Insulated Water Bottle, we knew it would be something special.

We were right! The YETI Rambler is one of the highest-quality stainless steel water bottles we’ve ever come across.

Eager to test the insulation of the YETI, we pit it against several market leading bottles in our Best Insulated Bottle Test.

In our tests of insulation, the YETI Rambler Bottle came a close third in our Cold Retention Test. However, it pulled ahead to first place when it came to the Heat Retention Test:

We found the YETI Rambler’s insulation pretty impressive. But more importantly, this is an exceptionally well manufactured bottle. It is sturdy, high quality, and ready to accompany you anywhere you go.

Glacier Point Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle (~$10 32oz)

Glacier Point Water Bottles

You may have never heard of Glacier Point before. Until we tried their insulated stainless steel bottles, we hadn’t either.

At first, we were a little skeptical. This is because Glacier Point bottles are cheap. Super cheap. You can get a 32 ounce Glacier Point bottle for about $12.

Yeah. That’s cheap. The 17 ounce Glacier Point bottle is just $9.99.

Yet here we are. This super affordable Glacier Point bottle made its way to our Best Water Bottles of 2019.

How?

By making a spectacular bottle! Glacier Point has packed all the features of much more expensive bottles into this bargain product.

Insulation is comparable to much more expensive brands. The powder coating prevents the bottle from sweating from condensation and gives it a nice grip. The bottles are available in a stylish array of colors and look snazzy when you’re out and about.

Plus, Glacier Point includes two lids with every bottle. One is a stainless steel cap, perfect for those who don’t want any plastic coming in contact with their water.

The other lid is a nifty straw lid, which does use some plastic but allows you to take a drink without unscrewing the cap.

Definitely an inexpensive brand worthy of investigating.

Rehydrate Pro Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle (~$20 25oz)

Rehydrate Double Wall Insulated Water Bottles In Various Colors

Another inexpensive brand, Rehydrate Pro offers some beautiful bottles at a budget price.

Typically, getting a fancy designer finish on a stainless steel bottle is going to cost you a pretty penny. But with a Rehydrate Pro bottle, you have several eye-catching options available.

A 25-ounce Rehydrate Pro bottle will only run you about $21. Quite a bit cheaper than a flashy S’well Bottle with a comparable look.

In terms of functionality, the Rehydrate Pro boasts insulation to keep liquids cold for up to 24 hours or hot for up to 12. The Rehydrate Pro does a good job in our testing and stacks up to some much more expensive bottles.

Featuring all stainless steel construction, the Rehydrate Pro includes a stainless steel screw cap or a “FlipNSip” sports cap. We’ve had good luck with both lids and haven’t had any trouble with leakage from our Rehydrate Pro bottles.

For the frugal-yet-stylish, this is definitely one of the best water bottles around.

Glass Water Bottles are the most environmentally friendly water bottle you can find. Because glass is infinitely recyclable, glass is the way to go for the eco-conscious consumer.

Not only is it good for the planet’s health, it might be the best option for your own health. Glass is one of humanity’s oldest and safest container materials. It doesn’t “leach” any type of chemical into your water, so you’re only drinking what you put in the bottle, not the bottle itself!

They’re also probably not as fragile as you think. Modern reusable glass bottles are much hardier than disposable beverage bottles.

For more on the glory of glass, read our article Why You Want A Glass Water Bottle.

Lifefactory Glass Water Bottle (~$20 20oz)

Lifefactory Glass Water Bottles With Silicone Sleeve In Two Colors

Lifefactory is a top manufacturer of glass water and baby bottles. They base their business on making the safest, cleanest, and healthiest bottles possible.

To that end, all components are made in the US or Europe and assembled in the US. They use high quality durable glass for every bottle and medical grade silicone for the sleeves.

The result is a super attractive and highly functional bottle built with your health in mind. Whatever you put into your Lifefactory bottle stays just as fresh and delicious as when you poured it in.

Equipped with a silicone sleeve which adds a bit of style and a serious boost to the bottle’s durability, it’s more than just a plain glass bottle. You can choose from a variety of colors and patterns for the sleeve.

The included cap is a simple classic twist-off cap. If you want something a bit more accessible, you can get an “Active” Flip-Cap for a few bucks.

ORIGIN Borosilicate Glass Water Bottle (~$20 22oz)

ORIGIN Borosilicate Glass Water Bottle

If you’re looking for a bottle designed with the environment in mind, the ORIGIN Borosilicate Glass Water bottle is a great pick.

Not only does it use environmentally friendly glass, it also incorporates an eco-friendly bamboo cap.

You can reduce your waste and carbon footprint just by switching to reusable bottles, but the ORIGIN bottle comes with the added benefit of using sustainable materials!

What’s more, ORIGIN donates 2% of revenue to non-profit efforts to drill wells for undeserved communities in Ghana!

Even without all these perks, the ORIGIN would be a great bottle. The Borosilicate glass its made from is the same stuff you’d find in Pyrex baking pans. In other words: super durable!

Reinforced with the stylish silicone sleeve, you don’t need to worry about being too gentle with an ORIGIN bottle.

The cherry on top is the ORIGIN bottle’s unique look. The distinctive bamboo cap is sure to win a compliment or two!

Takeya Classic Glass Water Bottle (~$17 22oz)

Takeya Classic Glass Water Bottle in Cobalt Blue

Takeya is a well-known brand with plenty of quality water bottles. After all, we named their Thermoflask the best water bottle of 2019.

While this Takeya Classic Glass Water Bottle isn’t taking the top spot this year, it is a great contender for the best glass bottles.

With the Takeya Classic Glass, you get a 100% no-nonsense water bottle. It’s high quality glass bottle with a protective silicone sleeve. You can choose from a variety of lid options, including a classic screw-top lid and a flip-top.

Plastic Water Bottles are extremely affordable, durable, and versatile. Plastic bottles can come in all kinds of unique shapes, colors, and sizes.

They make great bottles for kids or for anyone on the go who needs something quick and easy that can take a punch.

Though in the past plastic water bottles were shown to be unsafe for your health, modern bottle manufacturers have changed their ways. Bottles no longer contain the harmful chemical BPA and are now scrutinized far more than in the past.

All of the plastic bottles we recommend are made with food-safe materials and are 100% BPA free.

KOR Nava Plastic Water Bottle with Filter (~$20 21oz)

KOR Nava Water Filter Bottle

The KOR Nava is a 100% BPA-free plastic water bottle. It’s made from a durable FDA-approved food safe material known as Eastman Trition Polyester.

While the bottle itself is just a simple transparent plastic, KOR has included a handy filter. This is a tap-water only filter meant to remove common impurities and additives such as chlorine, chloramines, sediment, and common contaminants.

These inexpensive filters are made from activated coconut carbon. They last for around 40 gallons of water. You can get a replacement pack of 2 filters for about $12.

The filter is seamlessly integrated into the bottle’s straw, so all you have to do to filter your water is drink from the bottle! It does a good job of cleaning up the taste of the tap.

If you live in an area with funky tap water, this is a great way to stay hydrated and avoid that “tap taste.”

Brita Sport Squeeze & Filter Bottle ($20/2 pack 20oz)

20 Ounce Brita Sport Plastic Water Bottle Squeezable with Filter in Blue and Orange

Brita is a leading name in inexpensive water filters. It’s no surprise to find they’ve put one in a water bottle!

Integrating one of their tap-water only activated carbon filters, the Brita Sport Water Bottle does a good job of removing disinfectants like chlorine and common contaminants from tap water. It can improve the taste and clarity of your drinking water.

The bottle itself is pretty nifty. It’s made from a flexible, squeezable plastic. You can sip from the bottle if you like, but it’s more fun to squeeze the bottle for a quick jet of water!

This package is also quite a bargain, giving you two of these bottles for about $20.

Ideal for quickly hydrating at the gym or on the go.

Nalgene Tritan Wide Mouth Plastic Water Bottle (~$10 32oz)

Classic Nalgene Wide Mouth Tritan BPA-Free Bottle

The Nalgene Wide-Mouth Tritan Plastic Bottle might be one of the most recognizable bottles ever.

It’s won itself a place in many camping and hiking kits. It’s an incredibly durable vessel that can hold a considerable amount of liquid. This makes it perfect for use an an everyday bottle, or as a rugged and reliable outdoor companion.

There isn’t much to say about these Nalgene bottles. Which is okay, because it’s likely their reputation precedes them.

An enduring classic. One of the best bottles money can buy.

These are still exceptional bottles. They have continued to innovate since we featured them and remain serious contenders for the best water bottles on the market.

Let’s have a look.

Best Water Bottle 2017: S’Well Stainless Steel Water Bottles (~$30 17oz)

Fancy Swell Water Bottles

Back in 2017 we crowned the eminently stylish S’Well Bottle the Best Water Bottle of the Year.

There is a lot to like in a S’well Bottle. Departing from the typically bulky example of most insulated stainless steel bottles, S’well Bottles are all about being sleek and attractive.

They’re a bit smaller than most stainless steel bottles, making them ideal for sitting in a cupholder. They also sit quite comfortably in the hand, making them a breeze to carry or drink from.

While they pack some impressive insulation and high quality construction, it’s the looks that really do it. S’Well Bottles are award winning for their stylish designs and their huge array of finish options.

As much a fashion accessory as a bottle, S’well Bottle is the brand to look for if you want the flashiest bottle in town.

    Hi thanks for the info!

Do you have any suggestions for which bottle is best for kids? My kids are still pretty little (4 and 6) but I want to get them bottles to use. The ones here are a little big for them.

I’d say most plastic bottles are a good bet for kids. They are durable and can be quite colorful and attractive to look at. We have an article specifically on the Best Plastic Water Bottles which has a few more suggestions.

I bought my first hydro flask and it just came in the mail this week. I love it. Its the best water bottle I’ve ever owned. It keeps my drink cold just how I like it, for the entire day. I take my hydro flask with me everywhere I go. I’m getting ready to order my 2 daughters and husband one, because they’re jealous of mine. lol
